i'm asking for a mate as his car isn't running right. We went to go out in his car last night, but it wasn't running good. It seemed to be making a boggy sort of sound at ide and the rev counter kept moving up and down when we was at the lights and it stalled a few times. He said there was no pull in the gears and that there was a loud tick as it went up the revs. Any ideas? it was ok when we was in it on Saturday. btw the engine is a x14xe

if the ticking is high end, check oil and tappets, if it's lower end, get someone to check it!

erm shell bearings not quite but gettin an engineerin company to reground the crank can be pricey... prob be easier gettin another engine if it is the shells... tell him tae drain i oil, off i sump and loosen one o the caps to see if its had a loss o oil pressure.. hope that helps a little

sounds like your having an air intake problem, or a lack of fuel maybe, fuel pump? Or maybe even a fuel line mate!

well i've spoken to me friend and he said it's done it before. He said it did it before the MOT, he put petrol in the car and it was fine after that. He said it's got 1/4 tank showing on the clocks, so he's lost.

Try the coolant temperature sensor- mine went the other week and it was running like a bitch- backfiring on overrun and stalling etc and didnt want to start when the engine is warm. They are £4.75 from vaux-world.com

the ticking.... if its only when your reving up... or when you are accelerating it may be the exhaust manifold gasket.. mines doing it.. try tightning the bolts because i checked mine and they wer not properly tight..... if that dosent work (like mine) get a new gasket fitted it takes about 15 mins and use some exhaust paste and that could do the trick its worked for me going to check my fuel pump and fuel lines this weekend so ill let you know if it solves the stalling at lights and revving up

I couldnt get a link but if you go to the home page (vaux-world.com) and use the search function with the part number 01/90510183 and it will bring them up- they are actually £4.79 ea.

i've just had an email off mt friend, so if i get this wrong i'm sorry lol ok he said that he can hear a ticking near the top inlet, he said it sounds like the fuel rail. Is that right? he said it's sort of spitting out of the exhaust and has a strong smell of petrol. Also he said something about a ecu chip? could it be anything to do with that? i hope that is some help as i don't know what he means

if he's adding an ebay chip, it's prob revving and stalling cause it's over-fueling like fuck!!

i've been round his again today and it's still the same. When he revs the car up a little bit (2-3000 revs) the whole car is shacking and the engine is really shacking on idle. It's really getting tp my mate as he has to walk to work, which is ok at the min but not if the weather gets bad

I would go with a shell thats gone as it will make the piston go lower and higher than it should do and it will let more oil get in th bore, 100% new bottom end time,
the noise will should get louder and quieter on tick over, then when you rev the car up it will get louder and faster the tapping thats is, the more he runs it the more damage will be done
