I did a compression test on my x16xe today, as its smoking (Oil-Blue) and starting to use a bit of oil. i followed this guide http://www.cavweb-forums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=71683
I looked in the haynes to find it should have 10.5:1 CR, correct me if i'm wrong, which when worked out as he said should have a maximum compression of around 210PSI.
Mine had a max of around 240PSI, don't know if a head skim could bring it up to this as i don't know the history of the engine.
I then did a wet test as it says in the guide and yes the compression went up more.
Suppose that means i need new rings?
This is the first time i've attemped this, just wondering if any one has any suggestions before i spend money in the wrong places.
Engines on about 65K, is this about the mileage for worn rings?

you want to do a compression test on each cylinder, take the compression readings for each cylinder, you should be looking at about 160 to 170 PSI on each cylinder. that is a fairly tidy reading

If all 4 were the same, then it should be fine....
Its if you have a difference between cylinders, then youve got a problem.
Oil burning can be valve stem seals... Which wouldn't effect compression test results.

but with that high a compression i shouldnt be looking at rings being a problem?
yer all 4 were the same.

You need to do a wet and dry test really ?
Like said, worn valve stem oil seals will cause blue smoke (oil burning)

i hope it is stem seals, cba spending all the money getting rings done.
