Im joining this month.

Already been to quite a few evenings a week to see drill practice and find out more.

Sorted out all the paperwork and got my selection weekend on the 30th of this month then once if completed that I can begin basic traing where you learn things like field craft wepons handeling first aid etc

Going to be in the Infantry unit 4th Battalion Mercian Regiment

An average its 1 evening a week and 1 weekend a month + one 2 week session a year.

It can be diffeernt depending on your situation i.e they can do it like the above or they do summer courses of like 6 week blocks for students etc.

Go into your local centre to find out more

you have to turn up to so many weekends a year, they give you loads of free type stuff, licences and things like that take you out on trips for training. but they can then turn round and send you anywere in the world whatever training you got, and leave you there as long as you are needed, and as far as i know you have to take a lot of crap off the regular army including being called a GRUNT (Government Recruit Unsuitable for Normal Training) but your job is secure, i was gonna so it but to be honest im glad i didnt. but all good experience.

No they cant

Now days our country has enough troops and the reserves are not needed.

The T.A do send people out still as they are needed for things but your certainly not made to go. They ask for voulnteers to join a group who will then go on tour for 4-6 months.

I was speeking to various people about it not just privates either some higher ranked soldiers who confirmed they cannot force you to go unless seriously needed.

Restriction? What do you mean by that. You are a pretty free person in the army these days, unless your on tour of course. Basically work 9-5 working hours when not on tour or training exercise.

Aye rules of engagement. Not allowed to fire untill fired on and all that.
Theres ways around it though, your mates arent exactly going to stick you in it when someones had a ak47 pointed at you

my cousin is in the TA and he ended up doing a 6 month tour in Kuwait/Iraq. apparently he had been selected as he had received the NBC training that alot of the TA hadn't. he ended up on an armed escort for supply lorries going into Basra during the invasion.

just before he came back he got arrested by the american MPs though, he had taken some photos of one of their cobra helicopters shooting at something, which they weren't very happy about and confiscated his camera
