basicly, i turn it on and it loads the bios etc as it should. then the windows logo loading thingy. but before it gets to a desktop the monitor goes into standby...i dont understand it. Does the same if i boot safe mode. if i boot to VGA mode it works fine (at 640x480) if i try increase the RES it sends the monitor to stanbdy again

Do you have another monitor connected?
Boot in safe mode, uninstall graphic drivers, reboot, install graphics drivers and set it at the max res of the TV (most likely native res at 60Hz) and see how it goes.

Aye the tv supports 1024x768 (or actually the widescreen variant at the same size i.e. wider 12xx somthing i belive, anyways) i used to run it like that for about 2-3 years lol.
nopes no other monitors connected. Ive just booted into safe mode with VGA and am going to uninstall the driver. I've downloaded a newer driver from the nVidia website so ill try that after wards
