just a quick question
ive been lookin at the specs of 1.0 12v's on auto trader and it reckons that the 0-60 and top speeds are quicker than the 1.2 8v's could some 1 confirm this for me?
i had my licence revoked this year for gettin caught doing 100 in a 40 (yes i no being a nob) and am looking for a little project with cheap insurance hence looking for a 1.0 - 1.2, the only mods that are really going to be done to make it quicker are:
-manifold
-full through
-sports cat
-stripped the sound proofing
-drilled airbox or induction kit
-cammed
which car do you think would be better to buy? and which do you think would be quicker after these mods were done?
any help is appreciated, thanks

you cant tune a 12v, plus tuning a 1.2 is pointless, wait until you can insure a better engine.

best way to make this a bit quicker would be to strip it really.
1.2 8v can have a cam and a few other parts from other vaux's as kurts white one has but it's still not going to be amazingly fast. 1.4 8v SRi may be insurance friendly? A lot better engine too!

Ya not gonna get bugger all outta them engines. Stripping them wouldn't make much difference I wouldn't have thought due to lack of pulling power from the engine. Sri would be ya best bet if ya can afford the insurance. 88bhp as standard iirc.

1.0 12v is quicker than 1.2 8v yes.
But tuning is pointless. You've been silly with speeding, so there is no point trying to keep up with standard 1.2's and 1.3's.
However you can tune the 12v BUT it costs a lot. We're talking nearly £800 for a Dblias Flowtech Manifold. Regal quote an increase of 17bhp, however that is highly unlikely imho.
Just get the 12v and keep it standard engine wise. If you have to mod it, do cosmetics and handling performance.

Out of the two engines I'd go for the 1.0 12v. Very economical little engine and pretty bomb proof but doesnt have many options tuning wise. All Ive done to mine is derestricted the airbox and put a cat back system on it which to be honest makes no difference to the performance, just make it sound a nicer.
Probably a good option for you would be to get a decent 1.0 or 1.2 and do the cosmetic modifications first, then once your insuance issue has settled maybe concider an engine conversion of some sort?

Good ideas plus Shauns exhaust sounds fantastic. Doesn't sound like its on a 1.0L at all.

1) got to love the typical Corsa door creaking.
2) makes the same knocky/tapping noise on start up as mine
