Hi, looking to do a bank transfer online with someone buying a game off me... I've never done it online before. The guy says he needs my sort code and account number, obviously, that is true. But just wondering if there's any danger with giving them out? Just enquiring as my mate got done over recently with people taking money out of his account and it's made me a bit paranoid!

Only thing they can do is set-up[ a direct debit against the account which you are covered for under the direct debit guarantee.

Other than that they could try to gain access to your account online if you have internet banking but your questions/answers should make that near on impossible.

Cheers, might as well do it then as it sounds pretty much risk free! Even though it's a lot of hassle for £6 lol

Sort code identifies the branch you bank with, and your account number identifies you within the branch thats it.

Like everyones said, only money can be put in your account with this info.

They can set up direct debits to charity, most people who want to do you out of money probably won't do this though.
