As I'm useless.....
Wired in an active sub, run the leads etc. Powered and earthed. Power on @ the sub enclosure.
Works when ignition is on, stops working when engine is turned on.
Ideas?

starter motor is draining the power until the voltage drops so low that the amp cuts out. does it come back on once the engine is running?

Where have you taken power from?
Sounds like a perminent live problem

I assumed he'd taken the power straight from the battery. In which case, it'll be a remote problem I would've thought.

Nope that's when i cuts out, works fine when just the ignition is on to power the head unit

Powered to the battery.
Earthed to the chassis
Remote connected to the remote wire on back of head unit

Try disconnecting the remote wire altogether, but leave the power hooked up to the battery. If it stays on all the time, then it's the remote, like i said.

if you have the remote disconnected then it will never be on. as said above. get a piece of wire and join the remote and positive terminals.

Sounds liek when your starting it, the high voltage is putting the amp into safe mode.
Most modern cars get away with this becuase they cut the power to the stereo/lights etc while crnking, so the sub would turn off during cranking.
Try turning the stereo off/removing the face, starting the engine, give it a rev to let the alternator sort out voltage then turn on/put fasia back on.

he says that it doesn't come back on when the engine is running though pow so can't see it being what you said.

Might be the amp's way of protecting the components though.
I've had an amp you have to turn off and on again to make it come out of protection mode, and others that after 5 mins come out?

hmmm maybe. best bet is put a permanent live to the remote terminal from the positive terminal just to see what happens. if it works then it would seem that he is losing the remote live when he cranks the engine.

But when the engine is started, the remote SHOULD come back on, meaning the amp has turned off, not the remote.

i know. thats why i said to try connecting the remote terminal to the permanent live from the batt. if this works fine then its a remote problem. if the problem is still there then it could be what you said.

But it could be receiving too much "power" through the actual live wire, meaning the amp switches off to save itself from damage from the main power in.
Amps are funny peices of equpiment
