but has anyone on here ever rung it?
1) is it free?
2) how many peopl have actually bin that desperate to find out the time that they ring up a phone number to find out .
never used it but thinking about its really quite useless (which is why i wondered if it was free)

Don't think it is free, and i agree, surely there's enough ways to find the time without having to phone someone?

It's expensive, or it used to be anyway.
They've done a Comic Relief one just now have they not?

There are many ways i'd use before phoning the talking clock, even if they for some reason don't have one single internet connection.

I use the talking clock now and again to find out the exact time.
For instance, when i've woken up, hungover and remembered the clocks either go back or forward, and even worse, can't remember if i changed my watch/clock yet.

We use it all the time at work, something to do.
Although once we did have a customer who made us ring it to prove to a it was infact 7.59pm and we were not yet shut (8pm)

ye we deal with live time transactions for all the major banks so if its out by over 15 secons it causes or can cause issues with the settlment runs done in a day
why does that seem so hard to believe
also teletext is another option, just 1 issue of we dont have a tv ....

It's not more accurate than synchronising them with nist automatically, or even having a radio controlled clock, or a gps based time server, that's just 3 off the top of my head, nist being by far the simplest if there is an internet connection available.
