if your engine is getting to 100 i'd check your thermostate, head gasket, and check for leaks in your water pipes, cause it shouldn't sit that high!

Yes it should.
How can an engine that's stationary, and therefore getting no air flowing through the radiator to cool it, stay below 100 degrees?
Every Corsa I know, and every other car for that matter, rises when stationary, until the fan kicks in. When the fan does start, the temperature drops again.
George, 100 degrees is not a problem for it at all mate - as long as it doesn't go over (above 102 ish), then it'll be fine - after all, the coolant is under pressure in the system too, so doesn't boil until around 115 degrees anyway.
To sum up, the car is fine as long as the fan comes on at 100 degrees - don't worry about it

i'm yet to have a car that goes anywhere near 100degree's when sitting, shouldn't your thermostate etc kick in before that? causing the engine to start cooling?

All the thermostat does is open at around 85 degrees ish, and is fully open at 92 degrees to let the coolant into the radiator - so pretty much all driving will open the thermostat after 10 minutes or less.
Its the fan switch that kicks in to turn the fan on, causing air to move over the radiator.
Read the related threads below, and you'll find that most of them state that the engine runs perfectly between 92 and 98 degrees, with the fan cutting in at somewhere between 97 and 100 ish.
So Kev, your car never reaches anwhere near 100 degrees when sitting in traffic on a hot day? Try queuing for PVS - an hour stationary in 25 degrees plus!
At what temperature does your fan kick in then?

i have an external fan i just leave running alot, but i've been in a few hour jams without running that and the car seems fine :S
sorry for being wrong on a bit of info, i generally thought the thermo would cause your engine to go down in degree's.
and i shall be queing for PVS this year, so come and see if i overheat!

I just got some normal electric cable and sliced the 2 fan wires - taped the wire to the fan wires and ran it to just under my steering wheel. Now everytime i put these 2 wires together MAGIC happens and the fan kicks in.. bodge job for the win

I still wouldn't use one though - you are running the engine below its designed operating temperature, which can never be good for it!

how come when you drive along a motorway it sits below 90. i assume that 100 degree is a maximum safe temperature

Yes, as far as I know 100degrees is safe.
It's cooler on the motorway because you've got wind coming into the engine/radiator at 70mph cooling it down better than any fan.
