First off, on the cheap (and I dont really know what HIDs and the like are )

Do these bulbs actually change your headlights at all. To oncoming traffic are they a nice bluey colour (like a BMW/Audi etc) and/or do they improve lighting the road?

Is there any point to using them other than standards?

aceparts.com do some good bulbs that have a nice blue tint to them. cheap aswell.

and they look the same as the ones you posted, the difference it made on my fiesta was amazing. oviously nothing when compared to H.I.D's or xenons, but it gets rid of the dull old fashioned yellow and you get a nice bright white with a blue tint.

H4s have 2 elements, the one bulb does main and dipped beam

your astra has 4 bulbs, 2 for main and 2 for dipped

The osram night breakers are really good if you don't want to go down the xenon route.

Furthermore, you can buy 55w and 100w bulbs, same price, same description just different power rating. Is there any real need to go for 100w?

Where did people get these Osram bulbs from? I have 30% brighter Halfords ones in mine but because they're in Depo's which have the funny reflector thing over the bulb, the light is shocking.

100W is technically illegal, and also I assume standards are 55/65w, so might be best to go for those. On that yahoo link I posted someone posted an amperage of 20A needed on the fuse/wires to support 2x100W bulbs
