Was driving down the A50 earlier today doing bang on 50 (speed limit)
then had a police car go past doing 60-70ish without lights flashing etc so didnt look to be responding to anything and i later caught up with him as he stopped at traffic lights at the roundabout  so again he couldnt have been in a rush or anything.
But what difference is there to him speeding down that road to say if i went past him doing 60 odd. we both have the same chances of causing an accident due to speed, but because he's in a police car its somehow alright for him to do it.
always gets me how they can speed without lights flashing etc yet the second we go a bit over they appear to be straight on out case.

because they are trained to, they all have to do training to drive cars fast?

this was just one of the normal ford focus estate things.. but based on that... if we all had training it would be ok for us to speed?

yeah if everyone on the road had to go through an extensive advance training test then i would imagine we could but we're dreaming

theyre not supposed to break the law unless necessary. ie attending an incident etc.
if theyre not, they still have to abide by the same road rules as everyone else and can, and have in the past been done for speeding believe it or not.

i seen a woman police driver drive through a red light with sirens on and on the phone,but as soon as she got to the other side she switched them off and carried on.

nobody can speed. nobody is excempt from the rules of the road. ambulances have been done for speeding before, and fire trucks etc.
if its an emergency, and being the emergency services they can bend the rules of the road. if its not, theyre just like everyone else.

I know the police cant speed, its just the gerneral conception in this thread is they can because thay have had training

I can confirm that the advanced driving normal cops do does not teach you to drive fast.
It teaches you to drive to the law and is extremely boring.
Traffic pursuit training however is a different matter.

the law states that they cannot speed unless attending a cat 2 incident where there is significant danger to a person, a threat has been made to a persons life, a serious incident has taken place or things of that nature. but even then they are only allowed to drive above the speed limit when safe to do so and but they must have lights on and they must use sirens when near other vehicles who may not be aware of their presence.
thats the law anyway but how often is a police car going to pull another police car for speeding?!

yep all the time. get the reg plate and report them.
often see t5's flying down m6 going nowhere. next junction you see them sat there on the bridge.

a random question Ive always wondered is do they have a limit they cant go over
say they are responding to an emergancy, driving down a very wide straight 30mph road, do they have a limit they have to stick to or could they max it down there?

but even the pursuit training people do it occasionally.
i mean on a road wars episode i watched the other week he was trying to catch up with someone on the motorway easily broke into triple figures without his sirens or lights on, what gets me is how are they any different to us as no one around is anymore aware of their presence than say a normal car going up the motorway in triple figures yet because they are the police its fine to do it.
I obviously am fine with them speeding with lights and sirens. and i know they arent supposed to speed without their sirens on etc but they do.

Ok they are trained to but they still pose to be the same potential risk of an accident due to speeding because someone didnt see them/didnt know they were they as they were speeding without sirens. thats the part i dont get.

anyone in any vehicle even with the blues on travelling at speed is a potential risk. they just get away with it assuming people will move out the way.
