New lappa should be here any day now
It'll come pre loaded with Vista, but my bro is an IT geek at a school & he's got the propper disk to "spin it down" to XP (Is that the geek term for it? )
So is it worth doing or not? Isn't Vista like 2.5 years old now? I'd have thought any problems would've been ironed out by now

I think vista is brilliant, much better than xp.
XP is a legacy OS now, windows 7 is out soon.
I'd use vista for a while and only downgrade if you really don't like it, which I doubt.

I'm sure I've read that it runs slower? Or that XP runs quicker

I think the speed issue is if you have a old/slow pc as it was on my laptop I bought 2 years ago and it was fast

Yip, people are complaining that it doesn't run on old laptops.
You can't buy laptops without 2gig of ram these days so there should be no speed issues.

Vista rapes laptop batteries - as in on a charge they won't last as long as it would on an XP machine.
Always hated Vista until I got it on my new laptop - quite a good spec so never had a problem running it. Quite a few tweaks here and there compared to XP so would recommend it.

3 gig of ram is plenty.
Use it and if you can find any of these downfalls people talk about come back and tell us.

If you want ye olde retro OS go for XP
If you prefer current technology go for Vista...
Or even better wait for 7, which is what I'm doing.

I got pissed off with Vista treating me like a child and having to confirm ever chande all the time and with it's stupid pop up shite all the time.
I run XP sp2, windows classic desktop, all animations and crap turned off and my 3 year old laptop with 512meg ram is way faster than my brothers brand new one with 3gig of ram and vista.
I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

Wheres the both pretty shit option?
I find Vista more stable ie better for viewing porn in that you don't get cporrupted with spyware and virsu's.
Thats what you were really asking anyway

if you want a fast OS run linux or server 2008.
if you want something user friendly and easy run vista.
XP has no place in society anymore.

run server 2008 for a fast os? what planet are you on?
Even Microsoft developers admitted Vista was a fuck up when they released spcs of Windows 7, Vista is the new Windows Me.
Upgrade to Windows XP

btw 3gb of memory to run a DESKTOP operating system is fucking ridiculous. A true example to how crap Vista is with its resource hungry shitty coding.

My laptop came with 1GB RAM and Vista Home Premium and ran just fine for general use.
Then I started using photo editing and stuff, so upgraded to 2GB and its still fine.
Don't see why people don't like it TBH.

I've been saying that since early Beta of Vista, and still stand by the opinion... The OS is shite, and as for the spyware/malware/virus comment, you WILL still get that shit on Vista. Also the ignorance of most Vista users reading articles from years back thinking it still applies about it being immune for virii, ummm no... But hey, if you don't run it you're in the wrong 99% of the time as the fanboy bias will demand itself to be correct and awesome and make you worship there e-penis as they are "cool"
I'm glad I ditched Windows as a whole 4 years ago now, never had 1 single issue running Linux... Also feel like a human being using it compared to windows which fucking nannies everything you do... and why should I have to dig around to turn of the confirmation bollocks, its only there because M$ know 98% of all Windows users are fucking retarded...

I'm not a fanboy and i've never had a virus or any malware on vista.
I also know exactly where the user account control option is so I don't get nannied either.
As i've said about that before, that actually works very similarly to linux where you are need to allow elevated privileges.
Also, the 2% of non retarted windows users is probably still more than all linux users.
Don't know why people get so mad at a company for being succesful.
