Civic Type R
Focus ST170
Clio 182 FF
Mitsubishi Colt CZT
Fiat Panda 100hp

Althought going down the BMW route I would go for a E46 Compact 320 TD

http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/960385.htm

This one is a tad over priced but you could get one with MV1's leather, and some of the Msport gear for just over 5k

Bonus is you can drive it to work without crying about mpg?

160 bhp (book 150) but they all make more and rwd and aparently a hoot to drive

Driven a couple of 320d saloons and they are actually suprisingly supple and the 320td is deemd to be a good drive.

Shame they have the cheap and nasty yuppy image

how much would a 200sx be to insure? can get them within your asking price, and tuning them, well there are plenty of parts on ebay etc for cheap enough to get a bit more poke. from what friends have told me in the past 300bhp is simple enough and bolt on and chipped ecu style to get. drift your way around a track dallas. drift it, not tec it.

My mates got 340bhp in his s14a(think it's that) and it's not had much done to it, majority of that was a remap afaik.
Edit to say it cost under 5k.
