was wondering whether anyone on here plays the stocks and shares, after recently finding out just how bad my Isa rate is i was playing with the idea of taking some money out and expanding it that way.

Not sure how much of a good indication it is but placed a mental note on a few companies recently and when i check the paper 70% of them have gone up

Never known exactly how it all works but leaving my money in an Isa all year long is not making me anything any info would be great

First thing to do would be to open a broker account so you can trade stock, I use TDwaterhouse personally, Next, Study the companys you wish to invest in, With tyhe financial markets being in the state they are at the moment a lot of stock is down and companys are starting to see recovery so its a great time to get investing and make huge gains very fast. I have made a killing in the last month just by being lucky on this lot - barc.l, aib and vlnc
Banks are great to watch at the mo with many stock values doubling and tripling in a 4 week period. Have fun, Invest time in researching the companys and watch your investments like a hawk lol Its great fun when your winning but its terrible watching your stock fall. Cant win them all though.
I lost over 3k on my first investment but I learnt from that and have generated a nice income every year since 2006 on stock

Also less return.

They only invest your money in "safe" assets, therefore the with a small investment, don't expect huge returns.

I've got some funds and i'd liek to dabble with a bit just to see if I can make anything.

Yeh I was responding to my own post but you got in there before me

The shares have gone right up to $7.50 from a low of under $3. Can't see them going up huge amounts more any time soon.

My mates older brother used to dabble in his spare time, was up £75k at one point and lost it all. He learnt from his mistake and managed to plant a job in London which he stuck at for 1 year doing it and is now out in Omen advising mega rich people what to do with there money and making commision on top, its something i'd like to get into as i like the risk factor.

Ok so if i use the company suggested TDwaterhouse and i invest in Hsbc for instant at £1.00 a share (£1ks worth) can i watch them going up and down then sell if i saw the share price go upto £1.50 basically earning me a cool £500

I know i can win aswel as loose but that can be said about anything and im willing to give it a go to see how it all works

having watched Next in the recent 1-2 weeks the share price has gone up alot so any tips on getting started, or do i just apply with TDwaterhouse and everything is pretty much straight forward?

FARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR too risky if you dont know what you are doing

If you do then as said, some big gains to be made (BoA, Barclays etc all doubled/trebled in less than a month) but i would NOT invest your savings at this poitn in time if you dont knwo waht you are doing (which, no offence but if myour asking for a bunch of corsa lovers for advice im guessing you dont)

I've stuck my cash ISA in a 3% fixed rate ISA this year. Think it's the safest option at the minute.

Although, i got £77 more intrest than i was expecting for last year.
