At the mo I have a ati 1050x thats 128mb, for what it is, something like £20 its quite impressive but it tends to drop quite a lot of fps when there are a lot of player models to render.
Hard to aim at 10fps

I have the option of PCI Slots x2 or
PCI Express Slots x1

I dont really want to spend too much, around £50.

Which one or two if thats the case would be best.

Was looking at something like the 8800gts but I really dont know.

if you can get a 8800gts for £50 then go for it. Otherwise use this chart as a guide http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/gaming-graphics-charts-q3-2008/Sum-of-FPS-Benchmarks-Totals,795.html

Nice chat, thanks.

The 8600gts looks like a good card, high up on the chart and £62 on play.com

I have an overclocked 8600gtx, decent card but compared to newer cards atm its getting dated. I'll be replacing it soon. The 8800 are a great card.

9600gt is a good card to get atm imo. Not too expensive and plenty fast.

I have a BFG 8800GT 512MB OC2 at home, it's a brilliant card. Cost about £100 though. If you can find any 8800 models for your price range then go for it, but do note that the 320 and 640MB GT models aren't very good. The 8800GT 512MB can out-perform an 8800GTX in some games.

8600's are quite good, but the 9600 is virtually the same, don't cost a lot more either I don't think. Have a look on ebuyer.com.

Theres no comparison mate.

The 9600gt is around 90% more powerful tha the 8600gt and only slightly less powerful than the 8800gt but newer and in most cases less expensive. 9600gt also uses less power!!! COD:WAW 1280x1024 full AA and it doesnt miss a beat for me.

What I meant was they're quite similar chips iirc, probably wasn't very clear. I'm useless at explaining things

not to get too technical here but the 8600gt uses the G84 core while the 9600gt uses the G94 core. The 8600gt uses 80nm while the 9600gt uses the superior 65nm. Also the memory bus width on the 8600gt is 128bits while the 9600gt is 256bits. The 9600gt is a very good card for a mainstream card.

Don't worry mate, nothing there I don't understand.

8800GT 512 is G90 or 92 isn't it? From what I can remember, anyway. One of the two
