She had her first visit yesterday and the guy picks her up tonight
Will be sad to see it go but we want something bigger and more practical cause he wants a towbar and I need space for shopping
We have been looking at vauxhall vectras. Namely the SRi 2.2.
Only have £3000 max to play with and can get a decent 2003 model with decent miles for that. Can't afford a diesel or that would be our first choice.
Any owners on here? Some pics of lightly modded ones would be nice

The 2.2 engine isn't brilliant, it drinks petrol and performance isn't great for what it is. It's a shame they didn't make an X20LET.

ah they are all above £3000 though
Plus will more than likely have higher mileage.
Searched and searched. But we can go a couple of weeks without a car til something pops up.

Can you not stretch at all then? The diesel vecs are brilliant, especially with the 150 engine, if the Astra is anything to go by? Good for towing stuff too

I've got a 2.2 and its not gutsy at all, getting better mpg than out of my Mondeo TDCi, not the fastest thing in the world like but there not slow either.. [shameful plug]it's for sale if your interested[/shameful plug]

Mines totally standard... and in excellent condition if I do say so myself.

The chain driven lumps are pretty unreliable, had loads of them come in as scrappers at my yard, broken chains, piston slap, holes in the pistons all sorts..

Only through poor maintainance surely? Too long between oil changes etc causing the jet to get blocked and the chain drying and snapping, later cars (52 > ) dont have that problem though because the jet is larger. I did 60k in my astra over 3 years with regular servicing and I only had to replace the chain once because a tensioner started to get a bit iffy.

I just think its the Vauxhall cam chain curse the whole point of a cam chain is it *should* last the life of the engine but GM have NEVER been able to get it right.

Told Jungle what I thought last night Laura, you'd be much better getting a 1.8. Much better engine and not much performance difference..
Guy at my work has a 2.2 Sri and he loves it, but I'm sure that will change when his chain snaps... lol

The early 1.8 is GUTLESS in the heavy old vectra so the 2.2 is the only real choice if you want reasonable performance.. There is the 3.2 but who the hell wants a Vauxhall v6 engine? Unless ofcourse you are a sado-massacist!
