Hello people my EML has come on for periods of about 10 seconds about once a day so did the paper clip test and got a code of 1640 can someone tell me what that is please?

What engine,year ,car,possible knock sensor.

The code you state looks like a obd2 code but I can find no match on my lists, also doing a paper clip test you would not get this type of code number up I think.

Try the test again this is a help but has limitations,I can,t find my full lists of codes that I had. http://www.topbuzz.co.uk/

On a 97 year should be flash codes you look like you are getting a p code is the ecu the one that came with the car ie the original, think you are not reading correct . or possible knock sensor but thats a guess.

i read the tutorial again and it said it may give me a incorrect code if the engine isnt started so did it again and started the engine and all the eml does is flash continuously. counted to about 80ish and then gave up because i thought i wasnt going anywhere.

Yes you have to have engine running,I think you should get it read by a ecu reader eg tech 2 at a garage or vauxhall.

checked there is no code 1640, expect to pay at a local garage approx £30 might be more at a dealer, I take it the engine does run ok. if the ecu flashes all the time points to immobilizer problem.
