Does anyone happen to know what the average hourly rate for a digital photo retoucher would be?
I might have just landed a small job editing images from a fashion shoot, but i'm not sure what to charge.
I'm not a professional, but from the sample piece of work i showed the guy he was very impressed and he seems quite keen to work with me.
Any ideas?

For a first job, say £60-70 per hour?
I know some of the professional firms are pushing £150 per hour or more depending on their location/client base etc.

Hmmm, that sounds a bit much for the amount of work i'm doing.
The guy knows i'm not a professional, so i don't want to seem cheeky by asking that much.
I think i might suggest £15.

£15 an hour is rubbish. I'd be asking for at least £50 an hour - besides it might not take long if its simple and you don't want to be walking away with £7.50 do you

Why not charge him a fixed fee? As a one off sort of thing. And if he uses you in future charge an hourly rate what professionals would do.

Charge him a flat fee of say £50 then £20 per hour after the 1st hour.
That wouldn't have taken more than 1 hour to sort.

The images i've been working on are about 4500x3000 px, so they take about an hour each.
I just spoke to him on the phone just now, and he says he might have about 10 shots a week to send me way. If i was even to charge £20, that would be £200 a week he would be paying me. That sounds far too much.
This is difficult. I don't want to sell myself short, but i also don't want to charge too much, and they he decideds to use someone else.

If theres guaranteed volume then yeh, you can afford to drop the prices.
Just remember that once you've set a price, you can't really push it upwards later.
If you find lots of work coming your way, you can always afford to push prices down if need be.

The guy just sent me a new batch of pictures, and i'm sure one of the models is Reece's sister from Hollyoaks. You know, the one he was humping before he killed her.

Get quotes from companies who do this sort of thing (pretend to be a customer)
Then say charge half or maybe less depending what you are happy with
