Was looking at a car for a mate today, overall the car seems decent enough for the price its for sale for, but there is think mayo on the oil cap are there any other things to look for that say head gasket? car is on 78k 1.2 16v sxi

over heating
rapid loss of coolant
water in oil
oil in water
mayo could just be condensation from very short journeys

Plus any blue or white smoke when letting off throttle or when under load.

any white gunk in the oil and lots of white smoke from exhaust then it sounds like head gasket is gone or on its way

It costs about £70 at most to do a head gasket though.
Yes its the reason there is a load of vauxhalls on ebay with Very low buy it now prices but meh.

Itl still be a bargain then if its only 70 do replace it, cheers guys il have a look for those other things if i go back to see it
