I've got a rebuilt LET about to go in but don't have a gearbox, my dad keeps telling me that a 6 speed will get on my tits because your constantly changing gear because of the shorter ratios and to get an F23 over an F28? Just wondered what peoples opinions were on this as i cant speak because i've never driven 6 speed? Not bothered about top end speeds, just want fast acceleration and quarter mile times really?

I would love a 6 speed, after driving a TT with it I've decided I love playing with the short ratios

I don't have a LET but I do have a 6 speed gearbox.

Driving round locallly (acutally fairly local to you!) I don't find it a problem.

Driving on the hills in Devon I got massively fed up with the constant changing of gears.

For getting to 100mph quick, you probably want a close ration 5 speed gearbox with a wide 5th gear for motoway crusing!

Go for the one thats the strongest.

That engine was originally sold with a 6 speed so I would imagine it will be well suited to it.

Whats the spec of the engine??Estimated power output??
Id say F28.The ratios arent all that short on them.Or if your running close to standard power an F20 will be fine.

not sure but when i had my cally turbo i didnt have any problems with having to constantly change gears however on the odd occasion having to keep at the national speed limt such as motorways/ dual cartridge ways 6th gear makes alot of sense

Think you'll get to 100 quick whatever box it fitted.

Get an F28 in there

But 6th gear will help keep the revs down. A 12v would be so much better on motorways if it had a 6 speed.

You don't need anything when you're sitting at a constant speed.

with the extra weight i bet a 12v would use more petrol with a 6 speed box.
