hay all not to happy with the misses laptop atm..

went onto Crucial Memory to find out what ram my misses laptop needs and after reading up on things 1gb is just utter shit for a vista laptop.. so bouht another 1gb stick..

well it was a very simple instelation and re booted the laptop.. now it starts faster things load a fair bit quicker but it will not say its got 2gb ram will only say its got 1gb.. bloody thing is driving me nutts..

so far i have :

gone into the performance and indexing side of things and run the update settings. still nothing

tryed msconfig and went into the boot screen then advanced and unchecked the max ram amount.. still nothing.

anyone know how to fix this bloody problem?
its vista x32 so the basic one.. i know it wont alow more than 3gb on this opperating system but its not showing fuck all and its pissing me off

That's nothing to do with vista.

Whether the RAM shows up or not is decided well before it gets anywhere near loading vista.

How much RAM does it say it has on boot or if you go into the BIOS?

It just hasn't updated yet, i have seen a few vista machines do this.

Do as John says, check how much ram it shows at post or in the bios.

What laptop is it?
F10 gets you to the BIOS on most HP laptops.

Laptop is a fujitsu siemens alimo li 1718.. Found it in the end, and i have finally figured it out.. It is the ram thats at fault but its the old ram, put the old ram back in and left the new one out and bam back to taking 2 minutes to load from the log in screen.. Whiped it out and put the new ram without the old ram in there and it takes about 20 seconds now.. When the laptop was made in 2007 it was using a lot of the old xp stuff, so chatted to someone the misses knows (computer builder, and programmer) and he said that the ram i bought is the correct one for the laptop but the old one was a early xp style ram or something and it wont be compatable with almost anything. So he said i need to get another ram stick same one i bought and put it in and it will work like it should.
