Good and bad points like any car but the bad points out weighed the good for me.
Don't even contemplate lowering it because you will end up replacing every suspension component. But the engines respond really well with breathing mods. Mine made 13bhp with filter and 2" straight through and was very rev happy. F*cking rapid with a decent air flow set up.

most people will tell you that the weakest points are gearboxes and electrics.
i never had 1 electrical problem with my R though.
weak gearboxes i would agree with though

i have a vtr with a vts engine, green filter, BTB ehaust and generic remap. faster than my mates 306 gti-6 by quite a bit now, they respond well to breating mods.
electrics are shit, sensors go for fun though!
mines been lowered 60mm for years and nothings gone wrong with it, i did destroy the vtr box though

i never had 1 electrical problem and dont know of anybody who has but whenever the quesion is asked on here somebody mentions them.
probably the same people who say 'chocolate pistons' every time the word 'scooby' is mentiond even though they have no experience what so ever of them.
loved mine though, wish i never sold it.

what are the engines themselves like? just check the usual things like head gasket probs and oil burning etc

engines are pretty strong really, you need to look for the usual smokes and gunk under the oil cap to show HG probs. apart from sensors they dont have many common problems

Check for camber on the rear wheels, especially if its been lowered. I have a 106 Gti and my mates got a vts. Pretty quick and lowered all round 50/60mm on Bilsteins and good tyres will out handle alot of cars. Cams Filter and exhuast system should see 150bhp.

oh shit yeah forgot about that completely...
due to the torsion bar set up on the rear theres a really badly designed bearing which can loose its seal and fail, this will ruin the beam and is a costly mot failure. if the cars been lowered and the arm of the bar has come away from the beam accidentally (or intentionally depending on lowering method) this bearing could be on its way out and causing the damage.
if you can, jack it up and hold the hweel at ten to 2 and chck the rear wheels for any play at all. they should be solid if they move back and forward at all walk away

Had one for about 2 weeks as a donor car, engine is in the 106 now. Handled pretty well standard.
Rocker covers leak, pretty strong engines though.
Usually 106/saxo stuff, shafts, gearboxes, driveshafts.
Rear beam is a common repair.
Electrics were fine in both the saxo and 106, apart from a sensor on the 16v engine, think its the ICV, funny idle atm.

Typical 106/Saxo problems mate, driveshafts and gearboxes can be a little weak!
Never ever heard of electrical problems on them, the electrics are basic + very easy to work around in a saxo/106?!?
None of this 2 interior looms shit like on a Corsa, there is one point of connection between engine and interior loom and thats it!
