Corsa has just been sent away to get the redtop fitted after finalising all the parts needed. Unfortunatly due to the lenght of time shes been off the road no MOT.
What sort of rules are there with older engines and emissions etc...
Will i have a problem getting it through, the guys a family friend so im hoping heel just pass it but if not....

depends on the engine and how early a car it came out of.

Anything after '92 you will need a cat IIRC

depends on the year on the corsa and the engine.
if the corsa is registered before 31/07/1995 then you dont need a cat as you can get round the emissions because the MOT tester wont be able to find a match of the vechicle and engine on the emission database. therefore he will have to revert to pre 1992 limits.
if the corsa was registered after that date and the engine is a pre 92 20xe from an astra gte then you need to prove the age of the engine as it goes on the year of the engine not the car.
if its a c20xe from a cav/calibra and the corsa is registered after that date then you will need a cat to pass the MOT

Has any1 put a C20XE through an MOT and not had any problems i.e emissions fine. If the emissions failed (this may sound stupid) but could you put to CATs in, would that work?

Yeah sorry i may not have made it clear. I have a CAT in the system, but would you be able to put 2 CATs in, would this lower the emissions more?

one cat should be more than adequate.
if it wont pass with one good cat then theres another underlying problem

Would a catalyst from an X14 be enough to pass an MOT?
Better check before I waste my time putting one on...

more than likely yes, it would need to be a standard one though
not one of those aftermarket kwik fit bean cans
