Afternoon all
The girlfriend and I are going away for the last 2 weeks in August and have been looking at a number of places and Tunisia seems to be popping up quite a bit, mostly half board for around 600 quid for 2 weeks.
Just wondering if anyone from here has been before and would share their thoughts/recommendations?
Any other suggestions welcomed too!
Cheers

I absoloutly despised Tunisia - worst place I've ever been to - we went to Djerba off the coast and it was terrible - can't comment on the mainland

Echo the above. The locals are annoying too, they harrass you to buy stuff where ever you go.

Djerba is eesentially a rubbish tip for Tunisia with a beach row of hotels skirting the edge and then a beach and then piles of rotting seweed; the smell is unbelieveable, the area is too expensive (I don't mind paying when something's worth it but it was just voerpriced for utter crap); I spent most the holiday sat on the pan, we were there on my birthday and all I wanted to do was die! Only cool thing was these

Actually, we did have a few reasonable memories such as this
and my island
The hotel was nice enough, bar the rotting seaweed but we made the mistake of going during Ramadam(*sp) so the locals/staff were fucking miserable during the day and nowhere to be seen at night

However, the spoiler of the holiday was grabbing a taxi from the hotel to the local market town; as we pulled up some guy opened the missus' door, pulled her out and started to drag her away; I jumped out and ran round the other side and grabbed hold of her and the guys started mouthing off in sweaty arabic so we walked off, locals ruined the holiday tbh

I don't know; aspects were good but mainly hotel based. I like a holiday where there's something to see and do and to explore and we were stuck in the hotel for all but two days as apart from the pirate tour and the buggies there was nothing to do and the sea stunk and was too mirky to go snorkelling

I went a good few years ago now with family and absolutely loved it - and had mentioned it to my gf for our first holiday together - this thread puts me off though

girlfriend went about 2 years ago,
said it was horrendous, the locals harras (sp) you and dont leave you alone, even her dad (who is a bodybuilder) felt intimidated at night when walking out of the hotel,
didnt sound or look like a nice place to go, sure theres gotta be somewhere else to spend ya money,
imo anyway,

I love Croatia; we're going again this year to a different island off the coast. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for a real chill out holiday (ie no clubbing etc) but I wouldn't go back to Tunisia

Thanks for the advice chaps, might give Tunisia a miss as I asked a few people at work too and no one had a good word to say about it eitheir.
I'm glad you've said that about Croatia actually, someone suggested that to me as well just yesterday. When and where you going Lee, any suggestions?

Weve done two of the islands off the Southern Dalmatian coast; The first one was Kolocep and the second which were going to in September is Mljet.
I like chill out holidays, don't like clubbing holidays. All I want is good food, drink and things to see and do - especially as I'm with the missus and not with the lads (even then still wouldn't go on a clubbing holiday)
Dubrovonik on the main land is a fantastic city and so clean - I believe its the oldest in Europe. Its level of cleanliness puts the rest of Europe to shame.
This is Kolocep
This is Mljet

Also worth visiting some of the Islands surrounding Dubrovnik such as Mljet and Lopud the latter having some fantastic seafood restaurants

Brother went with his wife who is blonde with blue eyes.
Locals wouldn't leave her alone, bro was almost fighting every 5mins.
Couldn't even go to the toilet without him waiting at the door for her.
Horrible place.
Enjoy your holiday mate......

I went a couple years back with the girlfriend, stayed near Monastir I think it was. Had a really good time, yes there is some pushy locals but nothing thats out of the ordinary for the sort of countries. Would probably go back again

Of the 13 Elaphite Islands, only Lopud, Sipan and Kolocep are inhabited (thats in size order with Lopud being biggest).
Mljet, where I'm off to this year is a national park further offshore.
Dubrovonik is stunning - even the toilets were amazing; a siren goes off and once everyones evacuated the toilet a stainless door shuts the toilet; then the toilets self clean from top to bootm with a huge water spray/disinfectant system - then they dry with blasted air.
All this in a cty which is 1000s of years old and limited to space; don't see that with London, Paris or Rome
