I think AC & United will feel a little ripped off if Rafa manages to get £30m for a player who hardly set the Premiership alight.
After being touted around during the last closed season, can't have more than 2 years of his contract left can he?
Real must be V desperate but if they get him then it clearly good news for Barca, Chelsea & Manchester United in the CL.

Nah it's mainly been reported by a liverpool echo reporter who is usually quite respected, but was nothing in marca on it around the same time. Alonso is meant to have called rafa up the day before his wedding and said he wants to go but as I say you won't find a direct quote from him on it as he's not that stupid.
It's still 50/50 but I have a feeling real will eventually offer £30m and he'll go. Daily fail are now reporting that he wants it sorted out by the weekend, and that we will go in for aquilani as a replacement if he goes, i'd suggest given there recent record they probably just plucked that out of the air though.

What exactly do you mean by 'power' them have they not just spent £140m odd on 2 of the top 3 players in the world plus a few others aswell? If you don't understand how a player with alonso's qualities (you know knitting the midfield together with all the other areas, his 40/50/60 yard passing range, the tempo and calmness he brings in midfield etc etc) would improve most sides then you know less about football than most girls I know. He might not be a massive goal scorer, he might not be a massive brand like ronaldo but he's an outstanding footballer

Agreed Tom, he is by far a better midfielder than Gago and Lassana Diarra, would walk straight in the Madrid team IMO.

Alonso's best two seasons for us were his first (we won the CL) and the last one (first ever time we've been in for the title right to the end). That is no coincidence.
As Nath said, he was our player of the season last year (as voted for by the fans) - this in a season where Gerrard was in the running for the top national awards.
