Masa's crash helmet took a whack from some object when he was going at about 130mph. Seemed to knock him out for a brief moment before he came round enough to get on the brakes

Hit the wall at pace.

Taken to hospital by heli just now

Bit of a worry after that fella dying at the F2 event last weekend, although he did get hit on the head by a tyre.

Where did the "spring" come from?

OMG, that is seriously unlucky for Massa. Hope he's alright and doesn't suffer any lasting damage.

Suspected to be from Barichello's car.

Deeply unlucky, but tbh theres not much they could have done in either case to prevent it short of having a windscreen.

Felipe Massa will need to undergo surgery after it emerged he has suffered bone damage of his skull and a brain concussion in his accident at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The Brazilian will be forced to miss the race after he was hit in the head by debris believed to belong to Rubens Barrichello's car.

Massa was airlifted to a Budapest hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

Ferrari said in a statement that Massa will need to undergo surgery and will have to stay under observation in intensive care for an undisclosed period of time.

"After the accident during the qualifying session of the Grand Prix of Hungary, Felipe Massa was airlifted to the AEK hospital in Budapest," the statement said. "Felipe was conscious at the arrival at the hospital and his general conditions remain stable.

"Following a complete medical examination it emerged that he had suffered a cut on his forehead, a bone damage of his skull and a brain concussion. These conditions need to be operated on after which he will remain under observation in intensive care."

The team said further information will be released later tonight.

This news could mean an end to Massa's season. Head injuries can take weeks to months to recover from. Let's all hope he gets a speedy recovery & we see him after the 2 week holiday.

I'm not trying to sound silly here but I could tell from the first second he was in trouble.

The camera went to him in the wall and he wasn't moving an inch, then after about 20 minutes they still hadn't shown a replay of the incident which normally takes a second so you knew it was serious, and then obviously they said about the spring that hit him in the head.

One of my mates was being a donut and syaing he will be fine but with that happening to him on the head you don't know what damage that might of done to his brain and stuff.

I really do hope he pulls through this as he seems one of the good guys.

Aye it was obvious something was up when he didnt move, plus the fact the direction he went off was perfectly straight was really strange.

Sky will be over exaggerating as usual no doubt.

Apparently the doc's put him in a coma and will wake him up tomorrow, or something like that.
