I have 450+ DVDs and 20odd blurays.

I am getting a bit fed up of them taking up my entire room, i dont know what to do with them. Im always watching films so i need constant access to them.

Been suggested i removed the discs and put them in one of those case logic folder jobs, and it would be like a catalougue. Im not convinced because i quite like the boxes to look at spines when im not sure what to watch?

What do you do? Pics of storage?

I've got 500+ DVD's.. I love being able to grab a random movie and watch it

Thats a pretty good idea Dom but there is something satisfying about going through a physical collection

One of these

Or a massive hard drive.

I'd much rather have a look through a folder than go hunting for a dvd.

a shelve dvd length from the celing, its out of the way enough yet handy to browse, and kids cant get them, if you went all the way round them room it'd be
1 Handy
2 Cool
3 A feature point in the room

Media Server??
Blueray multi stakc? Bet they both cost a fortune

Pip it sounds cool, but i think it would affect the ceiling height and make it all seem a tad claustraphobic and im trying ot minimalise in here

Folders i guess would be the cheapest.

The Sony BDP-CX960 multidisc has just been released and is set to cost £600 quid or so. A media server would probably cost half, with most of that being storage.

I've only got about 1/2 as many as you but just got a 'Billy' bookcase from Ikea and it's only 2/3 full

I'll try and get a pic tonight but for about £40 I thought it was cheap yet solid enough

media centre is what you need. Shouldnt cost too much really, and is more a case of time putting them all on it.

I wouldn't get a wallet, as it will be gash having to flick through.

Get a media centre, then you can categorise them in comedy etc, and they will be easy to flick through.

Plus it's cooler if you have company

I'd stay with the collection/storage, media centre is good but

1) it needs to be HD output to take advantage of the BR discs
2) needs to have multiple disks for RAID backup or you may risk loosing it all in your first disk failure
3) it will take an age to rip that amount of DVDS/Bluerays to hard disk
4) you need to employ a method to rip said DVD/Bluerays where you keep the quality and dont use a shit ton of diskspace
5) diskspace

can pick up 1tb samsung drives for about £60, so you'll need around 4 of them, or more if you want a backup.
