Had an interesting test ride on a Gary Fisher HI FI Deluxe on saturday round Grizedale, also helped to do a bit of training preparing myself for the Grizedale challenge in September!

Wish my mate knew how to use a camera so this one hadn't of come out blurred

My hardtail Scott is in the shop at the moment having a few bits and bobs done and I dont really want it back after riding that I could go up and down stuff my current bike wont entertain. I did get a bit cocky and crash though. Didn't rate the tyres on it so I'll blame them

Thinking something along the lines of a Scott Genius 50 is going to be my next bike - best get saving

GF's are always a bit odd looking albeit the frame design or the funky paint jobs.

Yeah not a fan of how it looks. Performs well though.

Would really like a go on a Specialized Stumpjumper Elite

Now thats a good looking bike, just need to see if its as good where it matters on the rough stuff Always get a good spec on Specialized bikes too. Loads of others around that price to consider yet aswell

And yes the track is superb. I just need to get my stamina up cos I've got to be able to do 30+ miles of solid off road around Grizedale for that challenge, there is a lot of technical climbing involved so its not as easy it sounds

How much is that one?

I used to be right into mountain bikes, was fit as fuck for a while also. Then the car came along & I lost interest.

Bought another (cheap) one a few years ago but it was never the same, I didnt take to it & its just lay in the shed.

I wouldnt mind getting something decent again as I did enjoy flying down offroad tracks & such like scaring the shit out of myself!!

£1800 for the Gary Fisher.
£1860 for the Specialized.

I went through the same stage Colin. Now properly back into it. Its getting expensive though

My old one (which is still in the parents shed but is proper fucked now!) was probably worth about a grand & half in parts.

I got it when I started high school so mid 90's

Was a specialised something or other!?

Fitted rock shock forks and full Diore XT drive gear, light as fuck wheels with hope titanium hubs, onza downhill handlebars & some kind of special seat etc etc (any of this lot make any sense?? )

I was quite surprised how I dropped it when the car came along. Just never looked at it again. I used to take a bit of a ribbing off the mates for being a bike freak lol the same happens now with cars because none of them share the interest!!

I bought a cheapy from the local bike shop about 3yrs ago but its never felt right.

I dont have the spare cash I did when I was a teenager to get another good one now - maybe some day!

I guess you cant get one on the bike to work scheme either

Technical - Steep, slippy, rocky outcrops. Stuff thats like riding up a river bed so there is water flowing and large loose boulders and stones all over. Hard to find grip. That kind of stuff. Saps your energy really quick. Does me anyway. Some bits I dont have enough strength or skill to ride

Dont know where this is but its an example of what I mean

I've been trying to get back into biking but haven't had the time to finish rebuilding my trek since I've moved house.
Mate in work keeps trying to get me to go out with him when his new bike arrives. He just spent about £8k on a Nicolai to replace the one he had stolen

Dont know any off the top of my head Col, probably best to have a flick through one of the MTB mags, usually some advertised in there.

8k WTF

My thoughts exactly!
Apparently it's a model that if you phone the company they deny they even make it. Think the frame was about £4k and then he's spent the other 4 on all the bits for it

He must be seriously into MTBs or is rich!

My mate at the bike shop where I borrowed the GF from has a real nice DH bike. Evil Revolt frame was 2.4k, forks 1.2k plus how ever much the rest of it cost. Looks too nice to ride, like it should be hung on a wall. Still wont be anywhere near 8k though, thats quite ridiculous

http://www.nicolai.net/products/e-frames/e-helius-cc.html
That's the frame that was stolen (but in black)
Apparently the new one is costing more due to the fact it supposedly doesn't exist and because of the crap exchange rate (it's built in Germany) they add a surcharge on to it

Edit yeah a bit of both Matty
He has races usually 3 weekends out of 4. Earns approx £40k and still lives at home with his parents despite the fact he's 39. Supposedly they're never there though as they spend 48 weeks a year on holiday

Yeah, I've seen the kind of stuff he buys and where he lives etc.
Hopefully I'll be able to afford those kind of things one day

Sounds just like me but I sold mine when I got my first car

Now im using my older one which is about 15 years old but good for road riding to get myself healthy

I bought a jump bike last year but quickly realised I don't have the nerves I did when I was 16 so its going to ebay soon
