Can I just get this sorted out in my head ..
When people have '17s' on, that's the actual diameter of the alloy wheel isn't it? (as opposed to the overall diameter inc. the tyre?)
So when a tyre is say, 185/55 R15 - that means it will fit a 15" alloy doesnt it? - Not the overall diameter of the whole wheeel ?
And why is it "185/55 Radius 15" when its the diameter that is 15 ??

185 width of tyre
55 the profile (top of the tyre to the top of the alloy)
and the number after that is always the actuall size of the alooy ("15)

diameter of alloy not alloy and tyre
So when a tyre is say, 185/55 R15 - that means it will fit a 15" alloy doesnt it? - Not the overall diameter of the whole wheeel ?
last number is the size of the tyre - if 15 - fits 15's alloy
And why is it "185/55 Radius 15" when its the diameter that is 15 ??
radius? dont ya mean radial, as in the tyre of tyre?
the 185 is the width in mm
the 55 is a percentage of the width giving the height of the side wall - 55% of 185 = height of sidewall (from alloy to outter of tyre)
