Sorry just read post properly. Dad's looking at one of these, he had an old version from Aldi and it's never let him down.

Pioneer had a right nightmare with these today!

We fit them in the 159 and breras and the getting the sodding can bus controller to work just wasn't happening. Dodgy software on the can bus units we were supplied with

Never had a prob with mine. They run a Windows system, so you can customise everything Might give it to the interface guys and say "make nice".

the unit itself is fine, it's just the wiring loom from steering wheel controls to headunit.. Alfa make us buy certain ones from a set supplier

TomTom XL GB

Works well for me, can be slow to connect sometimes, but I think I need to update it, loads of places are wrong now due to it not being updated for a couple of years

Work gave me a TomTom Go UK for my 21st birthday. Love it, small enough to fit in the little tray in my car in front of the gearstick so I don't have to stick it to the windscreen and still picks up a signal within 30 seconds of leaving.

Tomtom One Europe

It's done me well.

On my third one, others didnt break though, 1 was stolen from my car, when it got broken into and the other I left in a pub in Liverpool

id choose a garmin nuvi 205 (£89.99)

or 205w (£129.99 the difference being the 205w has a 4.3 inch screen and the 205 is a 3.5 inch screen)

just like all satnavs keep doing the updates

if you wanna spend abit more go for a garmin 265wt (around £170), which gives you handsfree, europe, traffic info

tomtom are good units but if they brake under warrenty they have to be sent away for repair (normally around 2 weeks), garmin offer a replacement there and then well thats through halfords anyway

this is why i prefer to sell garmins on a day to day basis

still a massive confusion over this

my requirements are simple
* Uk only doubt ill ever need to even drive to Ireland
* I would like live traffic if its any good

really dont need picture viewer, mp3 player, bluetooth and all that other stuff. I found tomtom easy to use but then again never used any other system

i've got an ancient tomtom go 500, it does the job! Updated/hacked it to the new software with advanced lane guidance etc. (not supposed to work) and it runs just fine. My brother has a cheap navigo thing off ebuyer for about £45, put tomtom software on it and thats quite good as well

Its true. Always seems to get you there though, i find it makes the journey exciting, you think its taking you to the back and beyond and then you just pop out at your destination

wouldn't mind a bigger screened europe one though so might invest in one of them.
