Do you have to remove the timing chain? Need any special tools? I've had a quick browse over the Haynes, but trying to see if there are any other ways?
Cheers,
Tom

isn't it a belt?
Btw Haynes lies about everything and makes you do everything the longest way around possible.
To do the HG, all you need is a new HG, sealant, a torque wrench, new head bolts, maybe a long flat screwdriver to scrape any shit off (the old HG or maybe idk, sometimes you need them). Then a few sockets tbh, that's about it. Enjoy! Btw don't take off the manifold (at the back), it's not needed and it just wastes a LOT of time.
Anyway, I had to take the timing belt off, if it's belt make sure it's top dead center before you fire it and bend your valves.

No, the X12XE is definitely a chain, thats the problem - a belt would be much easier for me!
