jsut bought a p reg x14xe, and when i start the engine i need revs to get it started, once started if the revs go below 2k then the engine jsut slowly dies, ive done the paperclip test and its brought up crankshaft and EGR, does this sound about right to you? could the EGR cause the engine to act in this way?

thanks

Why did you buy a car that doesn't work?

I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

Did you have the engine running when you did the paper clip test? If not, it will always show the crank sensor so that can be ruled out for now.

Take the EGR valve off and try cleaning it out so the piston can move freely inside then put it back on.

If you still get EGR fault on the ECU, you'll need to replace it.

Excellent, you've copped on for a spare EGR too then.

Problem only arise when you bolt the egr on top of the blanking plate.

You have to either tie it up out the way but plugged in or bolt it to the original housing only offset so it hangs over allowing the piston to move freely.
