Marines are based offshore as opposed to on land. You can only get in the marines if you are the best of the best so to speak.

you cant join the marines straight away, you have to serve in another force first iirc and prove your worth.

Not really, its a specialist division of the Navy so you then have to specialise in being a Royal Marine, but thats it.

I think you're thinking of being a Marine Commando, which is the hardcore type of marine.

Indeed, two of my friends have joined straight into the marines.

The army is basically cannon fodder imo, where as the marines are much more adapt.

You can join the Marines straight away without going into another force, 2 of my friends have done it and said the training is a bit extreme, but aslong as your fit, healthy and strong you should be alright.

As said the marines is part of the navy. My brother is in the 29 commandos which is part of the army but stationed and works with the marines.
Marines is much harder to get into than the army although not impossible if you want it enough and have a good level of fitness

I work with an ex-Marine. He said the hardest part was training 4 times a day, not 4 times a week like everyone else!

British marines are marine commandos. Although you do get the SBS which is the amphibious version of the SAS.

British Army any old sod can join. And work from Air and land Training is shorter and not as demanding. Marines are amphibious and are more likely to be a bit smarter. Strict entry requirments mean mental as well as physical testing. Training is close to a year, compared to Armys Infanrty training that is only 6 months.

I dont see why everyone thinks Marines are the 'best', granted they are one of the big 3 but i think people tend to forget (or know very little) about the Army and the likes of the Paras. For one thing Para Reg lads make up a higher percentage of succesful special forces applicants.

At the end of the day no matter which part of the forces your in, each is the best at doing what they do(with a few exceptions).

Sorry i totally disagree. Im ex Army, also done my P company. Its nothing special. The paras do no extrea training over the regular Infantry. Apart from a 4 week course called P company which is just physical testing. They aree nothing special over a regular infantry battalion apart from the fact they jump out of planes, which they never do anymore anyway!

The Royal Marines have much harder and advanced training. Even getting through the selection process is very hard. They are also overall from what i seen in my time in the Army. Much more professional and capable soldiers.
