a mate of mine has a 51 plate ka and when he switches his lights on, sometimes the dash lights go out which also cause the rear tail lights to go out aswell. he has to stop at the side of the road and repeatedly switch the lights on and off quickly (usually between 10 to 15 times) until they come back on. has anybody got any idea what to check or what could be causing this. thanks in advance

try replacing the light switch as the focus mk2 had this sort of problem 
if not that then check the rear lamps for corrosion as it might be a dodgy light circuit causing the problem
