Got back after a weekend away in the Lake district to find my bank account £300 lighter... checked my statement, and paypal had taken it for a company called 'lmhsoft'.
Checked my paypal account, my password hadn't been changed - but sure enough there was a £300 transaction for some enterprise edition software used for bulk emailing.
I've changed all my paypal/ebay details - and reported it to paypal and my bank.
My bank are freezing any fee's on my account as I've gone from £50 in the black, to £50 below my overdraft limit of £200.
Thing is, I've now got about £60 to live off between now and payday on the 27th
Paypal said they'll investigate, and if they can prove I didn't initiate that transaction - i'll get my money back, but they can't offer any estimate on timeframe.
Has anyone had an experience like this before?

If the password hasn't been changed then it most likely hasn't been 'hacked'.
You will probably have some sort of malware on your computer though.

How exactly do you define Hacked, or Hacking then?
I've certainly not spent £300 accidentally, someone has gained access to my account illegally - whether that be via keylogging malware or otherwise, someone has hacked my account.
I've reformatted my home machine since it happened - and I don't access paypal/ebay through work.

He is defining hacked as an actual human being hacking into your account.
Simply as the first thing they would do is change your password. (Although this is hard to do now, asks for credit card number or other security questions which a hacker wouldn't have to hand.

I meant the account itself wasn't hacked in any way, they didn't do something to the paypal account to gain access to it, they've got the password eslewhere, via a keylogger or whatever.

I changed my password and 'secret' questions as soon as I found out, and did the same with my ebay account.
Nothing else I use shares the same combination of username/password.
I'll be removing my bank account association to my paypal account as soon as the 'investigation' has been concluded.
I just need to know what kind of timeframe I'm looking at - £300 is alot to go missing

It's irrelevant how 'strong' a password is if you pickup some hidden keylogging malware, which I'm sure is what mine was.
My password was 10 characters long, with 6 letters, 3 numbers and a symbol - and it didn't 'spell' anything logical (p4s5w0rd for example doesn't count as strong ) - but something, somewhere picked up my keystrokes and spent my money.

I deleted all my bank details from my paypal and my paypal from eBay a few weeks ago now, can't be arsed with any of it. It's all too much hassle, and they can both get to fuck if they think I was going to continue to pay the extortionate fees.

Paypal are utter shite, I wouldn't hold your breath. I bought somethin on ebay that never came and I didn't see a penny back. Obviously this is a different scenario tho.
