Hi, my dad has just found one of these in the back of our warehouse all wrapped up safe, and we have no idea really what it is, worth etc,it was in a room we just use for storage off alsorts of stuff so no idea how long it has been down there lol

Little old, but good little desks, pretty transparent in sound so good for home/small studios, portable recording rigs or for a small PA setup. Depending on the condition (damage, missing faders/knobs/button, mechanical condition of pots/faders/button/sockets etc) it's worth on a good day about 200/300 quid (A&H gear hold there value if it's in good nick and perfect working order). But you really need to check it out if you're planning to sell it, and if it is in shit state then i'd see how much it'd be to get it serviced before you sell it as you'll get very little.

Analog desks aren't too bad as everything has a set route/routing, and the A&H desk is pretty damn simple (you have 8 mono ins on jack/XLR, 6 stereo ins most likely on jacks/phono, then a number of aux sends and returns). Some of the old Neve, SSL consoles (consoles tend to refer to the f'off big desks/mixers) are a little more tricky (most have there own patch panels allowing you to route from inputs to certain channels etc).
But it's when you start going digital that it can become a royal arseache and you seriously need to RTFM (Read The Fucking Manual) as pretty much anything (input, output, return, send, oboard effects) can be routed to anywhere. Plus most digital desks (the smaller kind, rather than then large digital consoles) tend to have the physical inputs split across a small number of physical faders/controls and you have a layer switche to alternate - so you might have 64 input and output (mono) channels, but these are split across 2 layers to 32 physical faders (and controls, pots for EQ, sends/returns/auxs etc). And again you might have multiple buses (groups outputs that you can send to from single channels) split across layers.
And that the simplest of headfucks (remembering which layer you're on, especially in a live situation), once internal effects and routing comes into play you have to know the desk inside out.

Not sure what to do with it, probably sell it.got no need for it

If you just plug it in, you would not know if it was working. Especialy with it being analogue, you might just see some lights and thats it!
To be honest, you would have to connect some speakers, go through all the aux's returns etc etc etc. Not something you can just do at home if you dont know what the thing is!

If you had a hifi and the right cables (1/4" jack to phono and cable from source - most likely 3.5mm to 1/4" jack) you could test it out fairly well (if you grabbed an XLR to phono/jack cable test it out fully). But yeah, making sure it powers on is a start (make sure you have the correct PSU for it) i would try and test it as much as possible before selling, otherwise you'll probably get a low sale price if you stick it on ebay.
