Just got a whole lot quicker

Taken from 106owners...

quote:
Story so far bought the car already converted (DJM motorsport) a wee while back, standard cosworth engine and full 4x4 running gear, used it for a round 4 month only on fine days (not many up here in scotland but was summer time) then decided to send it to Reyland Motorsport fo a full revamp and a shit lot more bhp

The car has been there for some time as Martin (Reyland) is a busy chap, but he did state 2weeks ago its basically priority number 1.

New engine and transmission spec to date :-

200, long studded block fitted with nikisil liners and stroked to 2.2
Farndon billet steel crank and rods
Reyland spec pistons and CR
oil spray jets on pistons
Big wing sump
Reyland spec head and cams
All pulleys and flywheel billet steel
Fully balanced
Hart ultra high flow plenum with 8 injector setup
Siemens injectors with billet fuel rail
GT35 turbo with external tial wastegate
Pectel T6 2000 engine managment with motorsport braided loom

Should be around 650bhp

Transmission :-

Bara straight cut dog box
Quaife front thick wall casing with ATB diff
Quaife rear 7 1/2 ATB diff
WRC cradle type rear end setup
Front compression struts
PROFLEX 3 way suspension

Lunacy! Hardly seems like an appropriate home for in excess of six hundred horsepower.

I honestly can't imagine how quick that would be, I've been in 500+ cars that weigh probably twice as much and they've nearly ripped my eyes out of my head that would just be crazy.

All well and good it being around 650 bhp, but rich fags sending their cars off to get the work done is just gay, I would much rather be able to say I built it myself instead of, oh I sent it off to Such and such tuning company.

Yeah alright. If I was that loaded I'd send my cars to the best companies there were. The guy's lucky to be able to fund such things.

why is it gay lol , if youve got the money why not pay someone else to do it. "home built " cars are amazing but for something as crazy as this it needs to be done by professionals?

I'd do the same, if I had the money I'd send it to someone with more skills than me to do a better job, as he did.

True, I would send it to places to get certain bits done if I couldn't do it at home due to not having the equipment/knowledge I.E port and polish or regrinding the crank, that kind of thing I wouldn't do.

Id rather take my car somewhere with the ability to do a PROPER job on things, a tuner who can sort the upgrades as well as mapping and RR testing etc. They will have done their own development etc. Saying you did it yourself for some internet Epoints yet having a shitter would make you look the fool IMO

Obviously mapping and RR testing would be done by a pro, I mean getting someone else to put your engine together? Why? Do it yourself.

Wouldn't we all, but the simple fact remains, few of us have the time or funding required to make the sort of investment in equipment and learning to enable us to even attempt to come close to the skills, experience and abilities that this type of contractor/specialist would have in abundance.

Knowing what to do to, and with what, plus which materials and components to match are the sort of techniques one does not pick up in a fortnight, a month, a year or longer.

It's all well and good tearing stuff apart and bolting it back together, but it's the technical stuff in the middle where specialists are inevitable and essential.

I've worked as a mechanic/technician for nineteen years now and I wouldn't dream of trying to paint my own car, or rebuild it's gearbox, or map the ECU. That's what specialists are for and I think that it's far from gay for needing and utilising their services.

SVM- I'm far from great with engines (and its not hard to see) but I'm rebuilding my 1.6, obviously I'm sending the block away to get it bored out and sending the head away for p&p and the crank for balancing etc, but putting the engine back together once all them things are done isn't rocket science, and I'm learning as I go (although I do have a friend doing the bits I'm not comfortable to do)

Danny - I will pay to become a member when I have the £ at the ready.
