The one Jr had was the best one, Keith Piper had a VERY tuned 1.4 16v.
Jr's was pulling mid 15 on the quarter mile.

lotus tuned the x14xe and x16xe, therefore unlike the x10xe, x12xe and x18xe, they arent wholey vauxhall. the x10xe for example is fully vauxhall designed. Hence why 1.4 and 1.6 engines look different to 1.0 1.2 and 1.8 in terms of rocker cover design

source: http://www.migweb.co.uk/forums/engines-transmission/142325-x16xe-engine-question.html
quote: the engine was originally developed by Lotus who delivered it back to Vauxhall with about 150bhp. The people at Vauxhall decided they couldn't have a 1.6 putting out more than their 1.8 and 2 litre engines so they strangled by fitting a complicated and restrictive inlet system.

which parts did lotus tune? the ones that got removed when it was made a production engine?
the c16xe is the better engine. not the x16xe. the c16xe has a better head.

i dont know which parts they tuned but from the post i had the impression they restricted the inlet design to make them 'slower'

why? did cosworth degisn the 2 litre? lotus actually designed the 1.6 engine not just put a better inlet on it
