The rear wiper I bought off ebay doesnt fit my wiper stalk on the Astra, so its sort of held on by gravity and the arm, not actually secured to the car To test the wipers do they just make them move (because its fine for this, clears the window perfectly and stays on at 70mph in windy conditions, but obviously if he lifts the stalk it will just fall off

I thought with everything else that if it's there, it has to work.
i.e. registered 5 seat car has to have 5 working seat belts. But if you remove the seats and seat belts, they can't fail you because it isn't there. Same with the spare wheel?!

+1.
It doesn't have to work, which is why some people smooth the boot completely.

exactly. rear wiper isn't part of an MOT, if it's there or not.
But the seatbelt thing and seat thing, it either has to be declared via DVLA or it'll fail if you removed some seat belts/seats.

Never knew that.
I should have used the spare wheel analogy.
I'm pretty sure if it's there, it has to be up and not bald. If it is isn't, it isn't a fail.

I have a spare wheel in the Omega. But as its a facelift, and the only way into the boot is electrtronic and it wont open when the engines running....the tester couldnt be bothered haha
