Dad's trading his 54 plate Jaguar X Type 2.0D in against a new Discovery in the next couple of months.

He really hates to see the car go for the "little" money he has been offered for it, so has offered me a straight swap for my 2001 A3 1.8T Sport and he'll trade that in against the Disco instead. THe difference was litterally a few hundred pounds.

I wasn't really looking for a change yet so I'm not sure whether to do it or not;

Pros
- Newer Car
- Diesel (I do 35,000miles per year)
- Remapped
- Full Leather, Sat Nav, Heated windows (f&r) Electric everything, cruise control,
- 4 doors not 2
- worth more as a private sale
- bigger boot
- Also comes with a set of winter alloy wheels and tyres

Cons
- no folding rear seats so limited to what I can carry; use the audi to carry snowboards/doors/lengths of timber for the house etc
- not as quick to drive
- CD Changer doesn't work so would need replacing
- Doesn't have a tow bar (which I need for Towing boats/trial bikes etc)
- doesn't handle as well
and the biggy; OLD MAN IMAGE

My A3

Only photo I have of the X Type (hiding behind the corsa)

What are your thoughts?

I thought about getting the chrome bits colour coded and having a small boot spoiler to make it look a bit more like the one below

He's been offered £4500 for his and £2900 for mine but its more the fact that he's lost so much with depreciation in 5 years that he'd hate to see it go for so little when really there's nothing wrong with it.

So because he'd hate to see it go for so little he's willing to lose £1600 in p/ex value

Swap, sell, buy another Audi.

I'd rather own the Audi personally, but the Jag makes financial sense.

new cars around £45k; I don't think he's too fussed about the £1600. Plus Mum & Dad paid their mortgage off at the end of last year so I think he's feeling flush

Fair play, defo swap then even if you find it doesn't suit you then re-sell and buy something better than your A3

Also could you not take any 'good' bits off your A3 before it's traded and sell them separately?

no, nothing really done to it; someone ran into the rear 1/4 the other day so the rear bumper/1/4 are being repaired/replaced/repainted so it'll be immacculate when it goes

Isn't tax about £400 on those?

Have you checked insurance as well?
