Been looking at Z4s recently, got quite a fussy criteria list though.

Has to be facelift edition with MV wheels. Has to be 3.0 and has to be grey/silver.

This example is near me but has slightly higher mileage than I had hoped for.

Thoughts?

All their cars are pretty damn clean examples from there! Can't comment on the Z4's though I'm afraid

50k miles isnt far off average for a 4yr old car tbh.

You'll pay a premium for a lower mile example, so long as its got a well documented service history i'd not be put off.

By hardtop do you mean the coupe? Or a hardtop on the roadster? Because I think the hardtops on the roadsters always look like they don't fit properly

According to BMW Car Mag, the 3.0Si is a better car than the Z4M to live with, yet without compromising performance too much.

They said they'd prefer to drive to the Peaks in the 3.0Si, drive the peaks in the Z4M, then always choose to come home in the 3.0Si. Personally I can't see the 3.0Si being that dull.

I'd rather this than the Z4 though:

£15k for a 2002......does that represent good value?

Ive never liked Alpina's over M-E46's, just dont think they look that special to command a high price.

me and my brother looked at loads of 3.0 z4s, all but one had been in a front ender so keep an eye out for the usual signs. They have a clunky gearbox, i never rated interior comforts. Great driving position though

Had one for 2 years, the 2.5i one though.

Lovely cars. Abit cramped inside but, other than that I couldn't fault it.

Deano thats the kind of comment that really winds me up. An M car is totally different to its almost as quick non M rival. Theres always some jeb who doesnt understand the point of an M car and just looks at paper figures and thus buys the non M cheaper equivilant and tells his mates its just the same as an M but without the silly price tag. The reality is they are COMPLETELY different machines that both happen to be quick.

An M car will have focused suspension which wont be as refined (so journo's dont like it) it will also have a noisy and clunky lsd equipped diff (again journos wont like the jerky unrefinement) and the geomatry etc is all setup to make the car taught and poised at all times. It may not be light years quicker on paper, but driven properly will not only be far quicker, but more of a focused drivers car rather than a well handling luxury sedan.

So no a 3.0l is not like a Z4m. But it is a lovely car nonetheless! Ive always preffered the older shape Z4 as thought it looked more modern? With the huge chunky wheels (no idea on name)

but yeah its a BMW so it automaticly makes it awesome.

Buy it James.

I prefer the chunky wheels your on about, elipsoids or something like that. I'd look for a clean low mileage pre-facelift example and swop the front bumper for a facelift one, save yourself a few grand

ie. This - http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1441805.htm

+

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Bmw-Z4-E85-Front-Bumper-Facelift-Model_W0QQitemZ370314676266QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item563879882a

= Lower mileage car and £5k saving.

Admittidley not the right car or bumper but you get the idea
