Maybe the first 'good app' for mobile
http://wakemate.com/
... Sounds awesome.
Monitors your sleep patterns, tells you how much sleep you've got (length of sleep cycles / number of cycles / total duration of actual sleep), the quality of sleep, how to improve your sleep etc.
Also can be designed to wake you up at the most optimal point in a 20 minute desired waking period. It finds a section where it believes you to be out of a sleep cycle and ready to be woken up and wakes you gently. Rather than the alarm clock going off instantly shocking your system awake.
I'm looking forward to this loads, I'm often tired... I'll wake up in the mornings and feel worse than I did when I went to bed. Plus it'd just be damn interesting!

It says it detects motion as well...
e.g. when you're in one sleep state I believe you're paralyzed. So it should know when that is.
Maybe just another 'slender tone' / 'wii fit' for gimmick then?
- but i'm surprised as Y Combinator has invested in it, and they're not going to invest into some junk.

This isn't anything new, symbian and win mo have done it for a while (without the band), android does as well afaik.
I've got a sleeptracker watch (which is just about exactly what this is, it was a waste of money.

It does wake you up when you feel most awake, I am almost wakened when it goes off, doesn't make me feel any different though.
I think it probably affects people in different ways.

All it is, is an accelerometer (with a bluetooth module, i assume for wireless) attached to your wrist. Anything above a threshold (probably has a LP filter on the accelerometer) gets measured as your 'sleeping pattern'.
I can't see it being accurate, certainly not when sleep patterns are generally measured with a EEG.
As John said, plenty of products on the market already. Infact i think my parents have a pillow that can measure 'sleep patterns'

without even reading the link, i cant see how this would work at all.
how does it know how tired you are when you get up, like i cant remember the last time i went to bed before 12.30 and i know i should because i will always wake up tired so a phone telling me to wake up within a 20min period wont make a difference to me
it is very 'gimmicky'

wow, great opening line... 'without reading it, [I'm going to judge it]'...
Thing is, I've gone to bed in the past at like 2am and woken up fine at 8am - feeling lovely.
Other times I've gone to bed at 10:30pm and woken up at 10am and feel like shite.

yeah im not going to waste my time reading something about an app that does the job of an alarm clock/ i dont see can work.
i just dont see how on earth it can work, and how waking you up with in a 20minute time frame will make an ounce of difference because surely you would have to set it so that the end of this 20minute time frame is the latest you could wake up anyway without being late for work/what ever you have to be up for making it the biggest waste of time ever id rather save my money and just wake up then and if i wake up before then its just a bonus.
the app would surely just base it self on average data and then your average sleep patterns not taking into account your diet/excercise levels during the day etc so say you normally go to sleep at 2 - 8 and wake up okish surely if you have an odd day where your ill/bored and go to sleep at 10 it will try and wake you up at 4in the morning or something rediculous as it assumes this is the 'optimum' time to wake you up , it does just scream epic waste of time/money to me.

I'm not disagreeing with you,
I'm curious to see it.
Just found it funny you weren't able to read a site which has a product tour of 5 slides. Not exactly taxing.

yeh I often feel like this too. May get checked out for diabetes.
@ slendertone... fair enough... I always thought they were gimmicks - make me laugh that they're mostly used by people with so much fat across their gut they couldn't see a six pack anyway

I've been checked for everything mate but still the same there's a top guy near us who does allergy testing..me and the wife are going soon so maybe that will show something.
Slendertone tones your gut big time but it will NEVER give you a six pack...that's why most people think there shit because they don't SEE any results.
