Im looking for a 5 door medium sized family car to make life easier for the mrs and the baby. I've got my eye on a mk4 astra sri with the 1.8 petrol engine and i'm wondering what people who have owned/driven a 1.8 astra think of them? any common faults? what they like on fuel?

I'd just like too say my question is mainly aimed at the 1.8 engine. I'll be down grading from a GSI turbo because i need more doors so I know about mk4 astra's in general just never drove or know anyone who has been in a 1.8 petrol varient.

Why not go for the 2.0 Sri??
Kinda fancy a Mk4 myself(1.8 or 2.0 preferably 3dr tho).
From what ive read over on Mig etc, they seem to be decent cars.

I've been in my mate's 1.8 Coupe and that seems to go pretty well, can't say how it compares to a GSi though.
