Well the car is still a bit tappy and the only thing I think it can be is the lifters. Now, Iv got a set in the garage off another engine so was looking for a bit of advice. What actually causes them to tap?

They all seem in good condition will it be ok to fit them?

Can I clean them first and leave them soak in oil for a few days untill I fit them?

Any tips and advice would be good

Build up of old oil and carbon in them, causes them not to absorb the valve spring rebound quick enough and friction between the lifter and the head.

Is the engine a X/C16XE?

I when i done the head rebuild, pulled the centre bit out of the bottom, knocked all the oil out and then gave them a airline blow, cleaned it all up and put them back together. Have never tapped

Same technique can be used to turn standard lifters into solid lifters I have been told...

I suppose, seems silly really when you can just do this to the standard ones, but people pay silly money for ones from sbd.
