I would double check timing and firing order and are all plugs sparking, did the camera man work on the blairwitch film.

LOL yeh sorry bout the filmin it was getting dark and it was more for listenin than seeing.

ive tried the timing 3 times so if it out its only out very slightly, would it still sound that bad?

all plugs are sparking i checked that, but the firing order im not sure i got correct.

are the pistons numbered like this (from left to right) 3-1-2-4? thats how i had the leads set up.

cheers

Think firing order is 1342 you need someone with a red top to confirm this but sounds like you have leads wrong.

right, i swapped the leads round to 1-3-4-2, re done the timing to where its pretty much spot on.

But its still runnin like before with it backfiring aswell.

it does rev up.

i thought the xe's were interferance engines so that if the timing went out you'd bend things.

So its sparking on all 4 cylinders right? Do a plug chop.. Start it. Rev it to the red line a few times and when you hit the red line turn the car off do not let it idle. Whip the plugs out and they can tell you if a injector is over spraying or under spraying, of if there is oil being picked up or if it isn't sparling properly.. I can't watch the video at work, but if yours is similar to what Dale's is, and if it's an early XE, check the dizzy cap.
