Hi All

Well thought i would post this up.Me and my mate have been speaking and we are considering doing a drive round the whole of the uk in a 2 week drive. We have yet to work the mileage out but we are planning it for august this year.we will be be insured on his very trust 306D and Hope to do a daily journal of our where abouts.

To anyone who thinks this is pointless....let me just stop you there.we are doing it to hopefully raise money for a charity with alot of meaning to my friend.his dad is critically ill and in need of a pancreas transplant and kidney transplant,it would have been simple if he could have any donor but as both organs need a change he needs to wait for a deseaced doner to have both organs in working order and not the cause of their death.

Anyway, what are your thoughts on this?

we would be starting from the midlands and going to the nearest coast.then going either clockwise or anti clockwise round the uk (well, england,scotland,wales)...

Opinions?

It would probably be a decent trip, but how exactly is it going to raise money for charity?

If someone asked me to sponsor them walking a decent distance I would. If they asked me when they were cycling a greater distance again I would. But drive....

Doesn't seem difficult, even in a 306D. You'd need to do it in a Citroen Dolly or something like that to try and raise money by driving. It'd have to be a proper shit car to make it a challenge.

Or for you to do it non-stop. However that is just plain dangerous

Yeah thats true and I understand where you are coming from.we was going to cycle lands end to john o groates but it's already been done. Our aim is to basically raise awarness that being a doner is a worthy cause (kinda thing) he will be stickering the car up with all the destinations we will be going to and then tivking them off on his window in a paint pen kinda thing.... We was going to travel round europe but maybe next year for that.

we did think of doing the full 2 weeks non stop driving apart from filling up and toilet breaks.I would drive so many hours whilst my mate gets sleep.

You thought about doing one of the banger rallies? Obviously there is a cost difference but it's a good laugh and you meet a decent bunch of people, plus you'll have plenty of stories to tell -

Did London to Casablanca and back in 9 days (4000 odd miles in total) in this -

I did this in 2007 in a 1985 VW Santana with 2 mates, one of the best holidays i've ever had.

And the penny drops. If you could get enough people involved, 2 challenges a day, one at lunch and one in the evening, get the local rags there, go to places were you will have to do things rather than just by the coast.

I'm sure there are always stupid random things going on like the bird man contest or the cheese run etc.

Your mate maybe better off doing something like a race night at his local and see his dad for the extra two weeks.

Couple of my mates are doing the same thing. They're doing 3000 miles for £300 around Europe for St. Luks hospice.

Think there getting everything donated to them and will auction it off at the end.

Search 3000 miles for £300 on facebook.
