The new version can be had from £19k and I'm quite taken by the new design also I like the idea of free-tax and a decent MPG, its also good for my green credentials.
Has anyone driven one? What are they like? I'm just pricing up a PCP deal to see if its worthwhile selling both cars and getting one.

Surely the braking issues just means they are even more efficient?

I really dont think the demise of our home planet is something that should be taken "as a joke" ?

I read somewhere that they not as "green" as they make out to be. What with all the materials used to make it, then the shipping to get it here.

Thats all just a conspiracy made up by Ford and GM.

I wouldnt bother mate. The electric engine only lasts about 4 miles from fully charged to empty so when they say its good for pottering round cities it is right up until the point it runs out of electricity Most of them have 1.4 diesel engines aswel and the MPG is a lot lower than a 2.0 petrol of similar size and age due to the fact the 1.4 is trying to move nearly 2 tonnes of car. Id just go for a petrol 2.0 or 2.0 diesel and wouldnt worry about the hybrid bit. Merc's are quite good with the MPG and green points though if you buy a newish one

Since when did the Prius have a 1.4 diesel engine
The old one has a 1.5 petrol unit and the new one a 1.8 one

If you think owning a Prius which is full of acid filled batteries is going to ease your conscience then go ahead. Most of the celebrities that use them are delusional too.

Plus I'm sure they are Lithum Ion? Which is infact highly alkaline.

You may be right about the batteries. I'm pretty sure the con's out weight the pro's though.
A petrol Yaris would probably be just as green.

Gen Chat
Boss has one, drive it requlary (Gen2).
Gutless bottom end.
Hate the way your pottering around, then when you put your foot down theres a second or so moment of nothing whilst the engine turns on.
Power mode uses up the fuel
Eco mode, you get out-paced by a full milkfloat.
Fuel - Good around town, but if you dont use the brakes enough to charge the battery, it runs out, hence goes on engine. A full battery does not last very long!!! Esp when in slow traffic.
Motorway, no good on fuel, no better than a normal derv. No good for motorways.
I’ve seen the fuel gauge read under 20mpg when accelerating in power mode. 20mpg, for the performance of a 1.4 16v engine.
Toys – LOADED, sat nav, voice activation, Bluetooth, heads up display, funky screen displays, automatic parking (SCARY stuff first time lol, but it really is excellent). But let down by nasty plastics, hard seats, lifeless heavy stearing at the front.
In other words, not bad for a town car, but as a towncar a Smarts better. As a motorway car, a derv is far better.

Oh, would I buy one? No..
Would I consider one for short trips to work as a company car - Yes, purley for tax/compamy fuel card savings.
I would not buy one new, or 2nd hand. Technology needs to come on to an amount where it far outbeats a derv car, which it doesn't yet. I have seen 75mpg on it, but then i've seen 70mpg from a 1.9 turbo diesel on a motorway run, but with the addition of power and torque and the fact im not driving a tree hugging Californian hippymobile.

Not disrespectfull. I'd just rather drive somthing that is slightly "fun", and not drive what im "told" to drive (by tax prices etc).
Also, global warming is going to happen regardless of wether we drive around in Prius or V8 jags tbh.

To be quite honest I dont think anyone should drive a V8, its just selfish! We only have a finite amount of fossil fuels left so what gives them the right to use more then their fair share?
