What kind of flexible materials can be bought that reflect or keep out heat?

Thinking of wrapping the cold air feed to my BMC in some kind of heat resistant material.

Any ideas?

Any shiny reflects heat, but you also want something that doesn't conduct heat at all... metal isn't great for that. Carbon fibre is good for shielding the induction.....

got a few ideas... gonna trying wrapping it in cotton wool and then tying it together with sello tape and fixing it in place with sum blue tac

ive seen peeps wit aluminium or stainless steel heat shields for there intake!! theres nothin else that i can think of to use that is cheap!!!

try using the material that's used behind radiators to reflect heat, has a foil front and a thin expanded foam back

demon tweeks sell some heat resistent bandage which u can wrap around the exhaust to keep temps down in engine bay

Id go for the manifold wrap. The reason your using the reflective material is because the air in the engine bay is being heated up, the majority of the heat is coming from the manifold, stop the heat coming from this and you'll have colder air. The engine bay as a whole will also run cooler, especailly the rad which sits infront of the manifold. Also with less heat escaping the manifold the gasses will flow better giving a gain from that. Costs are usually around £2 a meter. Works really well too!!

i think demon tweeks sell it for about 50 quid to do the full manifold, is this dear? also where else can u get it from?

I used 10 meters to do a 4-1 manfiold for a 1.4 SRi engine. cost me £25 Look on rally sites and you'll get it cheeper though

My dads company produces the material from which the space shuttle tiles are constructed, woohoo, but it wasnt his fault it blew up.

If u can get hold of a material called insulfrax, isofrax of fibrefrax, ur on a winner, this is the material used in the catalyst of a car, amongst other places, to eep the temperature down and is temp retardent to 2500 degs c. but thats probably a bit extreme
