I may be getting one of these. They seems quite well specced with alf leather etc etc and look the part too.

Ive heard they are painfully slow, but they claim to be 140bhp which i cant see being neither terrifyingly fast or slow.

Whats the opinions?

Its a 1998 S plate

I always said i would never have a 4 cyclinder bmw, i then went and got wrights old 318is coupe off him (1.9 engine).

Not rapid, but goes well enough i suppose when in the higher revs. It went better after i gave it a service and a proper run anyways

On paper suppose to do 60 in 9.9 secs. A friend has a c2 vts and we raced i i pulled on him (very very little). I let him drive the bm and i drove his and same happend again so i suppose thats accurate And they suppose to be 8 secs to 60!

Even though its old (1998) they still drive smooth and shit hot car for the money.

Struggle to do 30 mpg though, more likley 27 mpg

Check for worn linkage in first (if it jumps). Usually if you slam it into first it stops it, or just placing it whilst moving really slow into first when slowing down.

Also checked for snapped springs on the rear suppose to be common but i havent seen it yet. Have a pull at the front check for worn bushes and thats about it. Solid

Do some insurance quotes for some of the higher engined models and you'll be surprised of the difference.I too have a far from clean licence and a 328i sport wasnt much more to insure than a 318is.

Unless it is extrmely clean I wouldnt pay anymore than £1000. I bought an ok condition 325 for £620 and it's done me proud. Even covered a 500mile round trip to Yorkshire and back the other day. Loving bmw ownership if im honest.

I did exactly that. Can insure a 328i for an extra £10 a month!

What about the very latest 1999 ones with low miles, they are prob still worth £2000.
