Took my corsa into the garage today as it was a bit flat and very lumpy on tickover, C02 levels were ok but Hydrocarbons were very high, we changed spark plugs, no joy, compression tested it & no probs there, but removing each ht lead at time made only minimal diff to tickover apart from Nr 4... worried of great expense.. are you guys thinkin Coil pack, HT leads or Lambda sensor??? has anyone come across this before?
I am running with a K&N air filter & twin DTM exhaust from the cat back

Check Lambda sensor. Check cam timing (esp. if cam belt has been replaced).

same symptoms mine had, had cam time checked twice and it was still the same, turned out the person who did and checked it did it wrong! Was 3 advanced on inlet and 1 retarded on exhaust!
Lambda wont make that much difference I wouldn't have thought.

Nah not Lambda sensor, if levels were way out your ECU light would flash in your face faster than a skint stripper.

Dont think its cam timing as it would affect all cylinders, its a long shot but i left the car over xmas for 4 week and the battery was flat, i took a lead off the battery & charged it back, but had a mare trying to re start it... could the ECU have re set itself and with me pumpin fuel in to get it started have set the ECU to a fuel rich mixture?

hard to say when it actually started, was always a bit lumpy on tickover after installing the K & N, its the wifes car by weekday and a second car for me when i get the time to enjoy it

Just got back from the Dealers, diagnosis shows a faulty Lambda sensor & an air leak... possibly from the inlet manifold, are they easy to change? Vauxhall wanted £400 to do both!!!

£400 - Fcuking 'ell  New lambda sensors are about £50 max (trade) - you just need to remove the old one by unscrewing it, resolder the wire to the new one and screw it back in. As for leaks on the inlet manifold - bound to be some hosing somewhere - just remove and check till you find the offending item, then replace with new length. About £2-3 tops. Even if you a garage doing the whole lot, you shouldn't be paying more than £100!

vaux will charge over £100 for a lambda sensor. Is it a 1 or 3 wire one?
With the engine running spray a load of wd40 or something over all the inlet until you see it bubble, then you will find the offending place. I think the air leak will be the main cause of this.

yeah, £130 for the Lambda sensor & £260 for the inlet manifold & checking.
I had a quote from a local auto factor.. £ 18.75 for a universal sensor its only a 1 wire one. will do the WD40 thing, thanks for the advise

took everything off, no air leaks at all, so changed the Lambda sensor... yippeee got the hydrocarbons down from 1900 to 18!! only prob now is trying to clean out the cat due to the excessive unburnt fuel flowing through... any top tips?
